Di-n-butylamine
C8H19N · CAS 111-92-2
Antimalarial drugs, surfactants
Two n-butyl groups on the nitrogen give a secondary amine with pronounced lipophilicity, hence its use in antimalarial drug synthesis and in surfactant production. Its acute toxicity figure is the strictest among the amines in this section: LD50 220 mg/kg at a exposure limit of 30 mg/m³. GHS: flammable liquid 3, skin corrosion 1B, serious eye damage 1, STOT SE 3, a combustible liquid that causes burns, so goggles and resistant gloves are required. Each lot comes with the manufacturer's certificate of analysis and a safety data sheet.
